NASA’s List of Irreducible Minimum Before the Repeat Polls
NASA presidential aspirant Raila Odinga has insisted that elections will only take place in October 17 if there are reforms in the IEBC.
Raila Odinga said this during a rally at Jacaranda grounds on the 17th in Embakasi, Nairobi County where NASA core principals made a declaration to ensure IEBC C.E.O Ezra Chiloba and team are out of office and the elections overseen by a different team.
The removal of the current IEBC commissioners is part of NASA’s list of irreducible minimums that has to be put in place before fresh presidential elections can be conducted.
According to NASA core principal and the chair of the campaign committee Musalia Mudavadi have listed the list of their demands. The list includes that form 34As should be printed with the names of polling stations and candidates and should be signed by returning officers in front of agents, the media, observers and the public.
The use of another printing firm other than Al Ghurair in printing of ballot papers. NASA also wants the introduction of election monitors who will also get to sign forms 34As and 34Bs before the results are announced.
The coalition also wants new returning officers to be appointed in the 291 constituencies while the current ones to serve as election managers. When it comes to the transmission of results the coalition wants only scanned images through the KIEMS to the constituency and national tallying centers which shouldn’t be displayed before they are verified.
The ICT framework should also be beefed up with close supervision of the agents and the IEBC to prevent anomalies experienced previously.
Raila Odinga states that when the above has been put in place that the elections will take place, even though it is just 27 days to the set date. Cabinet secretary for the Education has insisted that the examination calendar will not be altered. Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and Kenya Certificate of Secondary School (KCSE) have been scheduled to take place in late October and November.
