36 Candidates Shortlisted for Fresh Polls Team

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Selection Panel has shortlisted 36 applicants from a list of more than 700 to be interviewed for the positions of IEBC Commissioners, ahead of the 2017 general elections. 8 out of the 36 candidates are women.

In an advert in the local dailies, the panel listed the names of the shortlisted candidates and interview dates along with details of what documents they will be required to present. The documents include clearance certificates from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB), Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) and the Credit reference Bureau. The interviews will be conducted in public at the County Hall building in Nairobi from December 1 to 15.

Candidates nominated for approval will be required to appear before a committee of the National Assembly for vetting.

Members of the public have also been asked to present their views on the suitability of the candidates in writing and present the same to the Selection Panel from Tuesday the 29th of November.

The Selection Panel further stated that the applicants earlier shortlisted for the position of Chairman shall only be interviewed once for both the positions of Chairperson and Member of the independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission. However some politicians have demanded the shortlisting of the chairperson’s position be repeated on grounds that it is unfair for filing to reflect on regional balance.
